WelcomePosted: January 1, 2012
Welcome to the development blog for a new type of think tank in social policy. Over the next few months we’ll be sharing progress in developing our new think tank and inviting comments and ideas. We’ll be explaining more about why we think there’s a real need for a very different approach to developing social policy, why think tanks need to change, and how we hope our new project meets this need.
First things first though. My name is Michael Harris and I have been researching social policy for the last 15 years. I have worked as an academic researcher but also in local government, education, central government as well as think tanks. One of the things that I have been most interested in is the role that professionals and the public can play in improving public services. And so the simple thought occurs: why can’t they also be involved in researching and developing better social policy?
So on this blog we’ll be talking about how the project is developing but also discussing how we can open up policy to the people who use and provide public services. We want to engage people from across public services to participate in this debate, from those who work in the health service, housing, welfare to work, social care through to the police service. Join in!
